There are two providers - Direct TV and USSB below are the program packages and costs available for both providers. Most vessels get a mix of service from both providers.
In home installation you can add additional receiver boxes in other rooms for about $5.00 per month each extra box (called mirror receivers). These mirror installations require permanent connection to a land telephone line. Periodically the satellite providers tell the receiver to "call home". If the call home is missed the whole system is deactivated.
We have tried connecting "mirror DSS" via marina phone systems, on board cellular phones, and on board satellite phones. None of these available options have met the requirements to allow mirror receiver boxes on board. Therefore, for each DSS receiver box you will have to pay a full programming bill each month. For this reason most boats have a max of two or three separate DSS receivers. Even on the larger yachts two receivers, when installed properly, will provide two different DSS channel selections through out the boat, along with "terrestrial" antenna channel selections simultaneously throughout the entire boat.
