6.Q:What type of Satellite TV receivers should I use on board?
A:

Most boats already have an existing entertainment and TV system. When you are adding a DSS system, carpentry to your entertainment system is probably not an exciting thought. Most DSS receivers (and TVs and stereos) have infrared (IR) remote control technology. Using a DSS Receiver with IR remote means that the DSS receiver box must be in the view of the remote control. Thus - carpentry to fit the new equipment into your existing system. Carpentry usually equates to a big expense.

One alternative is a "wired" IR expansion system. Again - Big expense and lots of time running new wires.

The best alternative: radio frequency (RF) DSS remote control. Sony and RCA both make models making use of radio frequency (RF) remote control. These receivers allow you to mount equipment anywhere on board, and allow you to control your new equipment from almost anywhere onboard. A little extra expense on these receivers will equate to huge installation savings (both money and time).
