Press Release: TracVision G6 Extends Reception
of Satellite Television to New
Regions Around the Globe
MIDDLETOWN, RI – September 13, 2001 – New, high-powered digital television satellites and new generations of affordable, reliable stabilized antennas have allowed mariners in western Europe and North America to receive excellent quality TV for several years. However, if you are cruising in other areas of the globe, satellite signals are only available from older types of satellites with less powerful spot beams. These in turn require larger and more sensitive satellite television antennas. Now, the innovative TracVision G6 from KVH Industries offers boaters access to low-powered regional services. For the first time, vessels equipped with one of KVH’s award-winning, in-motion satellite antennas can receive satellite television services in such varied locations as Mexico, South America, the southern Mediterranean, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, the Red Sea, the east coast of Africa, Hong Kong, and South Africa.

“TracVision G6 is the deluxe satellite TV system for mariners who need worldwide satellite TV reception,” explained Ian Palmer, KVH vice president of satellite sales. “With its larger antenna and integrated Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) compatibility, TracVision G6 provides outstanding reception of the weaker satellite signals used by satellite services outside North America, such as Sky TV New Zealand, FOXTEL in Australia, DIRECTV Latin America, and programming offered on Hotbird, NileSat, and ArabSat. As a result, KVH now supports a growing population of vessels and boaters worldwide that want access to the entertainment and news provided on satellite television."

TracVision G6, KVH’s premier in-motion satellite system, uses a 24” (60cm) antenna combined with antenna-mounted rate gyros, CONSCAN signal strength tracking, the award-winning KVH GyroTrak Digital Gyro Compass, and KVH’s proprietary, integrated DVB technology to provide the fastest satellite acquisition and finest satellite tracking available. Compatible with any DirecTV or DVB satellite service worldwide, TracVision G6 makes satellite acquisition extremely fast, totally automatic, and completely foolproof. TracVision G6 extends coverage into areas with weak satellite signal strength such as the lower Bahamas, Mexico, South America, Canada, as well as Turkey, Greece, all of Italy, the Adriatic Sea, Portugal, Scotland, Scandinavia, and UK channels in the Bahamas.

The Advanced Digital Control Unit (SCDU) included with KVH’s award-winning GyroTrac provides the TracVision G6 with a powerful, user-friendly LCD interface. With this interface, TracVision G6 owners can select from a large library of pre-programmed satellites, including DIRECTV, DISH Network, and ExpressVu in North America, DIRECTV Latin America, and Astra, Astra-2, Hispasat, Hotbird, Sirius, and Thor in Europe. As KVH continues testing TracVision G6 around the world and with different services, additional satellite service options, such as those serving Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the Middle East, will be added to the system’s satellite library. In addition, the library offers easy-to-use positions for user-defined satellites, ensuring that TracVision G6 owners can easily save and access their preferred satellites, even if it isn’t part of the standard, pre-programmed package.

“Our customers have been extremely pleased with the performance of the TracVision G6 since it’s introduction earlier this year,” noted Palmer, “and we continue to take steps to improve its capabilities and expand its library of satellites.”
